Writing with Not For the Faint Hearted

I attended a writing session Monday evening with local group Not for the Faint Hearted.  Organized by James Burt and Ellen DeVries this session was facilitated by James.

James presented the group – we were about 15 – with a series of images as prompts.  Writing times were limited to 5 minutes, 3 minutes, 2 minutes and 1 minute.

I found it really interesting to hear the different writing voices.  Myself and a fellow from New Zealand were the only non-Brits in the room, and our voices were distinctly different.

Here’s the first  piece I wrote, unedited from my notebook. Make a nice audio piece, don’t you think?

(5 minutes: B&W image of woman on a park footpath surrounded by pigeons. Note, the image displayed here is not the image we worked with, but I’ve chosen it to give something of the sense. )

Pigeons in the Park

Feeding the pigeons

The pigeon lady

coo-coo coo-coo

Who are you?

They rush her

Wings a flutter

fluster her

flap her ideology

Everyday they are here

waiting for her bag of bread

crumbs-crumbs-crumbs

saved from the care home kitchen

flap flap flap

fill the gap

the gaping hole in her soul

coo-coo coo-coo

who are you?

coo-coo coo-coo

who are you?

(whisper) ssshhhh pppppp ssssshhhhh

(sing) coo-coo coo-coo

coo-coo coo-coo

who are you?

wooooooooooooooooooooo

(I’ll try to post the rest of them this week.)

Lost Puppy Spotted Near Pet's Corner

Spotted this stuffed pup on my morning walk. Note Pets Corner in the background! Did she stray?
