Sky with Fuchsia Stripes

The yellow sun
slipped into the charcoal horizon
disappeared momentarily
then remerged
a glowing globe of orange red fire
streaking electric fuchsia across
strands of slate grey cloud
hanging over a shimmering silver sea

Meeting of Minds, Alison Boston, 2005

We had another sun glass swap today.
P and M and I.
M insisted his Armani’s are the best,
they do make everything pink,
though his eyes are quite dark.
I looked through P’s tortoise shell Ray-Bans,
they deliver a darker shade of the real thing,
yet his eyes are the same shimmering, silver-blue as the sea.
And mine? Mother’s cast-offs?
They dull the world I see as blindingly amazing!
