Another winner from the Brighton Vegfest was Gifty’s Peppery Sauces. I liked them so much I bought some! That’s rare for me. The only other prepared food product that’s grabbed my money is Smorl’s Houmous which I wrote about here.
Gifty mixes fresh fruit and vegetables with fresh peppers to make the kind of sauces you’ll use sparingly to add a punch to whatever you’re eating.
Red Hot, Cucumber, Pineapple, Apple, Cranberry and her latest – Carrot– mixed with mixed hot peppers, and other ingredients specific to each flavor – all finely chopped, to give the sauce a coarse texture rather than a smooth blend.
It’s the kind of thing you might add to a cheese and onion sandwich, falafel pita, or a wrap. Or maybe you’d put a dab on the side of your plate to replace horseradish or hot mustard. They’d also work great with sushi, or enchiladas, or to add an extra bite to nachos. The possibilities are endless and limited only by your imagination and taste for zest.
My faves are the Cranberry and Cucumber. They both have enough flavor to cut through the pepper. The others are for me uninteresting. The apple, too vingary, and the carrot, too peppery – overpowering the other ingredients.

Maybe I’ll figure out my own recipe. If I do, I’ll let you know.
